Increase Sales with Social Media

As a small business owner, utilizing social media is one of the best, and most cost-effective tools you may have to showcase your brand, messaging and products or services. Studies have found that after following a brand on social media, 91% of consumers visited the brand’s website and 89% will buy from the brand. With over 3.6 billion people on social media those sales numbers really add up. That doesn’t necessarily mean you should jump on every social media platform and expect a huge turnaround in sales. The key piece to your social media marketing strategy is to stay focused on select social media platforms that make sense for your business.

We’ve pulled together 3 things you can do to determine which social media platforms will get you the largest customer engagement

Know your Customer- Be where your customer is. Understand your customers demographics and psychographics. Having a strong grasp on where they are will enable you to determine which platforms are best for your business. For example, if you’re target customer is part of Gen Z you might focus on TikTok, Snapchat or Instagram.

Know your Products / Services- Does your business revolve around fashion, retail, real estate, food or any other visually intriguing product? Then a platform like Instagram would be perfect. If you have a B2B business LinkedIn is where you want to focus your marketing. Having a clear understanding of the benefits and features of your product will help you determine which platform will give you a strong presence.

Know your Competition- Understanding where your competition is and where they engage with similar customers is important. Research where they are most active and, most importantly, where their engagement falls short. For example, if your competitors and target customers are on Facebook, but your competitor is not responding to comments or posting infrequently this could be your opportunity to focus your attention to Facebook and create a relationship with your customers.

Once you have your social media set up, engaging your customers and bringing them to your website, viewing your offers and helping them solve pain points is the next step to increasing sales.  Check out our resource guide for other proven strategies to get customers to your website and increase sales.
