Your Website - Your Checklist for Digital Success

Your website is your calling card- it’s an introduction to a new customer, a source of information for existing customers and a place to do business (thank you ecommerce!).

Your checklist for digital success

Review SEO and Metrics Any information is good information. Understanding how your customers shop, what their buying or searching for will help keep your small business profitable. Checking SEO and any other metrics can help you react to your business quickly. Learn more about tracking SEO here.

Perform this weekly

Review Security Updates You don’t want to leave your website susceptible to hackers. Whether you created your website on your own or used a service- checking for any security bugs is important especially if you have an ecommerce site. Reach out to your hosting service for security information or check (or add) plug-ins to a site you created.

Perform this monthly

Review Content Take time to review the content. Are the prices listed, correct? Store hours / location? Any outdated information like a product launch that happened 10 months ago? Things change but making sure your customers have the most up to date information is critical.

Perform this monthly

Review Forms and Checkout The last thing anyone wants is a customer shopping from your website only to get an error message when she goes to check out. Check your check out process and any security issues. Check any forms like a your “contact me” page to make sure the moving parts are all working.

Perform this quarterly

Review Terms & Conditions / Privacy Policy / Copyright Notices While these aren’t the most glamorous parts of your website, they are extremely important. Any changes to terms and conditions or privacy laws must be updated on the website. It’s also very important to safeguard your copyrighted information. Not maintaining these components could result in poor customer satisfaction or even legal issues.

Perform this annually

Think of your website as the face of your business when you or your team aren’t available. Keeping your website up to date with monthly reviews and updates adds value to your potential clients, increases SEO and allows your business to grow and succeed even when you aren’t on the clock.
